What happens now?
As we move away form the impact of the disasters, we are starting to look into the future. The steps we take in the next few months will be ones to ensure a solid recovery from the storms, and place out doctors in the best possible circumstance regarding practice in Louisiana. Please continue readin on this page for information about various forms of assistance.

Continuing Education Hours
CAL has asked the Louisiana Board of Chiropractic Examiners to waive continuing education requirements for doctors displaced/out of work as a result of Hurricane Katrina or Rita. They will rule on this request when they met in October.
In the meantime, CAL continues to schedule seminars to meet the needs of our membership. Because we cannot provide sleeping accommodations, "local" seminars will be held throughout the state so that you will not need overnight lodging. Please check the following schedule to find a program near you.

Pre-registration fees for each program: $189-CAL members $259- Non-members



State Convention
FEMA's acquisition of hotel rooms has forced cancellation of CAL's convention. If you were pre-registered for this program, your registration fees have been returned to you. If you made hotel reservations at the Lafayette Hilton, those reservations were automatically cancelled by the hotel.

CAL Katrina Relief Fund
CAL has established the CAL Hurricane Katrina Relief Fund to assist doctors displaced/out of work as a result of Hurricanes Katrina and Rita. To make a donation, send checks made payable to CAL Katrina Relief Fund to the association at 3070 Teddy Drive, Suite A, Baton Rouge, LA 70809.

FEMA Assistance
Doctors, you can apply to FEMA for $2,000 in emergency relief for your personal needs and $2,000 in emergency relief for your business needs.
LSI Responds with 5% Donation on all supplies and equipment to displaced doctor's fund through end of year.
TCC extends Hand-to-Hand Program
Richard G. Brassard, D.C. president of Texas Chiropractic College, has announced that beginning october 1, TCC will begin a new program aimed at assisting chiropractors in Louisiana, Mississippi, and Alabama whose offices have been destroyed by Hurricane Katrina. The campaign is called "Hand-to-Hand" and is designed to help DCs rebuild their offices with donated office supplies, clinical forms, used tables and equipment. TCC will act as the repository for the material and will organize efforts in conjunction with various state associations to help those docctors in need receive the donated items. Cleveland Chiropractic College Offers Assistance to AlumsCleveland Chiropractic College would like to offer assistance to alumni who may have suffered damage/loss of homes or clinics during Hurricane Katrina or Rita. FCER to Help Restock Patient Educational MaterialsFor those of you who lost patient education materials in the storm, FCER is ready to help with replacement. FCER will provide 10 copies of each of their 16 educational pamphlets for your waiting room as well as up to 500 copies of their Newsletter designed for mailing to your patients. If you would like to receive these materials free of charge, contact Shelia at the FCER office 1-800-622-6309.
